Meet the board

President and founder: BJ Bernstein is a criminal defense lawyer in Atlanta, Georgia and owner of the Bernstein Firm, PC. She has been recognized in Atlanta Magazine Super Lawyer’s as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Georgia and one of the Top 50 Female Lawyers in Georgia. She regularly Appears on television providing commentary for CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, CNN International, NBC, CBS and ABC. She has had trials featured on COURT TV, ABC’s PrimeTime Live, CBS 48 Hours and the New York Times, Washington Post and ESPN. BJ grew up in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from Richland Northeast High School. She received her undergraduate degree in History from Emory University and her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. BJ is also active with CARE, the International Relief organization and is active with the American Jewish Committee.

Sabrina Weill is the author of The Real Truth about Teens and Sex and is the former Editor of Seventeen Magazine. She currently runs a unique website which turns the news into good news called www.projectangelmom.com. This micro-philanthropy allows unique person to person giving to those in need. It mirrors her pioneering spirit. She lectures around the country about teens and sex and was instrumental in the launch of CosmoGIRL magazine. Marc Lamont Hill is a Professor of Urban Studies at Temple University. He is called the “hip hop intellectual” and his blog at www.marclamonthill.com was won the award for the best black polical blog in 2006. He commentates on many issues related to urban youth from music, politics and law. He appears regularly on FOX News, MSNBC and CNN providing commentary on political and urban issues facing the African American and youth communities.

David Balser is a partner with the law firm of McKenna, Long and Aldridge in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a leading national litigator and handles cases all over the United States. David became interested in the issues covered by My5th when he represented Marcus Dixon. Marcus Dixon, who was featured on Oprah, was a 17 year old star athlete that received a 10 year sentence for consensual teen sex. David was victorious with the Georgia Supreme Court overturning the unjust conviction.

Jennifer Carter serves as Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She adds her expertise in running a non-profit organization to help launch My5th™. She is a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts. She is a fantastic artist and taught art in schools in Georgia and was nominated Teacher of the Year.
