Vision processing for the bionic eye
By extracting and conveying key visual information about the world, the quality of life of bionic eye users can be improved. The project aims to restore functional vision for the blind by developing a bionic retinal prosthesis system that delivers visual information to the brain.
Assessing breast density automatically
We've worked with the University of Melbourne to develop software to help identify women at higher risk of breast cancer and women potentially suited to personalised cancer screening strategies. This work was a merit recipient in the R&D category of the New South Wales iAwards 2015.
Enabling analytics of sensitive datasets for the benefit of society
"The more data the better" is a recurring request from organisations when it comes to mining data sets to solve complex problems. However, in unique cases, being exposed to too much data can be harmful to one's mental health when working on the data-driven front line.
PhishZip: A new compression-based algorithm for detecting phishing websites
Phishing has grown significantly since 2010 and is currently experiencing a huge surge during the COVID-19 pandemic. The dynamics of phishing attacks makes it highly challenging to implement a robust phishing detection system. However, a novel method is changing that.
CSIRO's Data61's Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group is one of 11 teams selected worldwide to participate in the three-year DARPA Subterranean challenge, and is the only Australian entity. The challenge, funded by the US's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, aims to explore new approaches to rapidly map, navigate, and search underground environments.
