Supporting, enabling and inspiring marine science for Australia

The Marine National Facility (MNF) operates the multidisciplinary ocean Research Vessel (RV) Investigator and maintains a suite of advanced scientific equipment, as well as a library of over 35 years of marine data, to enable a wide range of research to benefit the nation.

From ice edge to equator, we deliver world-leading research from the deepest reaches of our oceans to the atmosphere high above. The research we deliver increases our understanding of the marine environment and informs decision making to ensure its conservation, sustainable use and future prosperity.

Grants of fully-funded sea time on RV Investigator are managed through a competitive application process open to all Australian researchers and their international collaborators to enable excellent research of national benefit.
